Collision Avoidance and Defensive Driving
Introduction
Advanced driving is learning more about the feel and safe control of your car in extreme situations.
Have you ever felt the car move on a wet road? Have you ever skidded to a stop and thought, 'how did that happen?'
The ADI has developed a course where you can learn from our skills in the fundamentals of car control. This course, held over one day (8:30am to 4:30pm), works on developing the three essential skills of car control and vehicle dynamics; accurate vision, steering balance and braking thresholds.
Having no association to racing or testing your car, this course is conducted at common road speeds and stay relevant for every driver on the road. This course is a prerequisite for our Performance Driving course!
What You Learn
The day starts with a brief lecture on understanding how the human body works best and develops the driver based on that. Seating, mirror settings and steering methods deal with the cabin basics while the braking is done with separately. A move out to the exercise area and start putting it into practice. Emergency Braking in a straight line and a passive Slalom are the first skills to master.
After our fully catered lunch, it is timely to talk about diet and fatigue related driving. The driving theory concentrates on combining the 'three skills': vision, braking, steering. Defensive driving is also explained in detail and eventually two students are chosen to take part in this amazing demonstration of driving. A real eye opener. Now you learn what to do when another vehicle suddenly appears out of an intersection and a crash appears certain! Brake! Turn! Recover!
Then we blow the myth about braking and steering together and talk about common slides like under-steer and over-steer. An exhilarating and educational day for all ages.
